It didn't start in Minnesota

The Dakota War of 1862 was not a singular event in American history.   Native-born Americans and European-descended settlers clashed over several centuries.

King Philip's War in Massachusetts in the 1670s resulted in more death and destruction than the Dakota War of 1862.  Suggested readings:  Jill Lepore, The Name of War  King Philip's War and the Origins of American Identity, New York:  Vintage Books, 1998;  Eric B.
